Hong Kong Style Density: The Model For Toronto?

growth, and urban renewal. Mind you that
Hong Kong, and Chinese Cities seem to have a far more chaotic layout and pace
than gentle Canadian Cities. However, one has to marvel at the efficiency of
Hong Kong, and other Chinese Cities when it comes to getting people around
town. Now, I understand that the days of thousands of people riding down the
streets of Chinese cities on bicycles have long gone, as a newly rich China has
been using its new-found wealth to purchase luxury vehicles for the masses, it’s
us here in the supposedly old rich countries that are the ones resorting to
using bikes to get around our cities.
Hong Kong, one has to admit has a pretty
nice subway system, and it’s efficient and it’s privately run as well. That has
always arisen as an idea for Toronto, but has never taken hold. Hong Kong, also
builds much taller buildings than Toronto, or at least it did, before Toronto
went on a Chinese style building spree, and has now passed Hong Kong in the
number of new and taller buildings currently under construction. Hong Kong,
Chicago, New York all provide awesome pivot points for Toronto to follow in the
future, as we rise up into a true Global City.
